Dodge Darts Vehicle: Tracing Its History
When the production began, the Dodge Darts was made available in three body-styles: the Seneca, the Pioneer and the Phoenix. In the first place, the Seneca was considered as the base model of Dodge Darts. The Pioneer was the premium and the Phoenix was the intermediate. Along with introduction of such Dodge Darts models, numerous engine choices were available. The 318 and 361 cubic-inches engines, which could be modified with different carburetors to elevate the overall horsepower rating, came into being. Aside from that, a 225 slant six Dodge Darts engine was crafted, adding to the versatility of the vehicle. There are several characteristics the Dodge Darts engines possess. In particular, the 318 cubic-inch V8 engine was noted for its capability to produce 230 horsepower, while the 316 cubic-inch V8 produced 310 horsepower. Of all the Dodge Darts models, the top of the line was the D500, which is a package that consisted of the 361 cubic-inch horsepower engine with ram-induction highlighting identical four barrels. The D500 performance option was actually made available in 1961, however many have noted that this would be the last year that the package was offered. 1962 saw rise of great models of Dodge Darts. The new engine, 413 cubic-inches Max Wedge, was developed and its horsepower soared to 420. Well, the name "Max Wedge" refers to the "maximum performance" label that was then used in factory advertising, while the "Wedge" represented its wedged-shape combustion champers. This Dodge Darts model has a zero-to-sixty time of just 5.8 seconds, and having this capacity, the Max Wedge Dodge Darts was not recommended for every day driving, rather for the racing circuit. In addition, 1962 was the year of changes. Although the Dodge Darts retained the three-tier model line up, the Dart Seneca was changed to Dart, the Dart Pioneer was replaced by the Dart 330, and the Dart 440 replaced Phoenix. The following years were represented by certain evolutions on the early Dodge Darts models. Certain changes also took place. The Dart name was no longer used in 1963 on full-sized vehicles but now adorned compact vehicles. Aside from that, the Dart name was used as a replacement for the Dodge Lancer, which had not actually lived up to sales and popularity expectations, As a result, the Dodge Dart GT was introduced and topped the line in respects to performance. For years of massive developments, the Dodge Darts appeared more square in shape and the headlight bezels and grille became rectangular. Further strong engine performances were developed and the production of Dodge Darts saw its rise and fall. Dodge Darts responded to other pressures, including government regulations, emissions and safety concerns. The Dodge Darts had lived a long production life span and had endured a number of aesthetic as well as mechanical adjustments throughout the years. It became full size, compact, with daily driver, and was a high performance racing machine. Many of the Dodge Darts models are still around today, and although it is often overshadowed by the Charger and Super Bee, the Dodge Darts still achieved an undeniable reputation for durability, value, and longevity. |
